My favorite Triathlete!

So Jess and I are back in Michigan from a ten day stint in my hometown of Sarasota, Florida. I forgot how perfect that place is during the month of April. 80 degree weather and the water is still too cold for the stingrays, red tide, sharks, and of course, LOVE BUGS! Those who came to the wedding will understand the emphasis on those little critters.

After a nice week of catching up with family and soaking up some sun on these pale faces, we headed to St. Pete for Jess's triathlon. I was slightly nervous about her ability to perform well as we had spent the previous week eating lots of good food and not training as hard as we might normally back in the D. But my fears quickly faded as I saw her pop out of the water after the first leg. She was moving well and had a big smile on her face.

As people came in from the bike, I noticed many of her team members had passed her and I began to wonder if everything was ok. She was just reserving a little energy for the painful 6.2 mile run in the Florida heat. Mission accomplished. She flew though the six miles and she ended up beating her time from two years ago by over five minutes.

I was a very proud husband -- not only for a great performance on the course, but for the thousands of dollars she raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society.

Now, we set our sites on some summer races to get us ready for the 1/2 marathon in Detroit this October. Since that race does not involve the water, I think I will join in on the fun.

Much love to you all,

Corey and Jess.
